Archiving Against the Clock:
How MediQuant Helped Mosaic Life Care Beat an Aggressive EHR Transition Timeline to Save Millions
Mosaic Life Care faced a critical deadline to retire their legacy Cerner EHR and migrate to Epic before their current contract expired. While other vendors quoted 12 to 18 months to complete the project, MediQuant delivered it in just 7 months.
"At the beginning of the relationship, it was about the timeline and beating that timeline to avoid a significant financial impact to our organization. But that carried through the whole project. Each and every time we faced a challenge, MediQuant came to the table with creative solutions, ultimately building a level of trust that’s rare in vendor relationships." – Tanya Arthur, CIO of Mosaic Life Care

Mosaic Life Care Takes Strategic Approach to Rapid EHR Archiving
Mosaic Life Care, a healthcare system with four hospitals and more than 60 clinics in Northwest Missouri, was facing a significant challenge. Transitioning from their legacy Cerner EHR system to Epic, Mosaic was up against a critical deadline to archive the Cerner system before their support contract expired. Missing this deadline would result in millions of dollars in additional costs. Typically, EHR archiving projects can take 12 to 18 months, but Mosaic had only seven months to complete the transition.
Solution:
A Single, Strategic Archiving PartnerTo meet this ambitious timeline, Mosaic Life Care turned to MediQuant, a leader in healthcare data archiving solutions. With MediQuant’s extensive experience in handling Cerner products, Mosaic was confident that they could achieve the necessary results within the tight timeframe. MediQuant offered a comprehensive approach to archiving, allowing Mosaic to retire their Cerner system efficiently and integrate the archived data in DataArk® into their new Epic system.
"At MediQuant, we have more experience archiving Cerner products than anyone else in the industry, and Mosaic’s Cerner Millennium system was a perfect fit for our expertise. The environment at Mosaic was complex, and highly customized, but having successfully completed hundreds of Cerner archiving projects, we were able to hit the ground running the moment the contract was signed,” said Niel Veirup, Regional Vice President, MediQuant.
Implementation:
Meeting an Aggressive TimelineFrom the outset, MediQuant recognized the urgency of Mosaic’s situation. The project required not only rapid execution but also close collaboration between both organizations. MediQuant deployed a dedicated team, including project managers, data modelers, and technical resources, to work closely with Mosaic’s leadership, including CIO Tanya Arthur. This collaboration was intense, with frequent meetings at both the project team and executive levels to ensure alignment and address challenges as they arose.
"At the beginning of the relationship, it was about the timeline and beating that timeline to avoid a significant financial impact to our organization. But that carried through the whole project. Each time we faced a challenge, MediQuant came to the table with creative solutions, ultimately building a level of trust that’s rare in vendor relationships," said Arthur.
Results:
